In value terms, hard plastic comb production shrank slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -12.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 99%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
Hard Plastic Comb Exports
Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
Hard plastic comb exports soared to X tons in 2022, picking up by 16% against the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, faced a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, hard plastic comb exports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, El Salvador (X tons) was the key exporter of hard rubber or plastic combs, mixing up 37% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), Mexico (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Panama (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Colombia (X tons), together comprising a 59% share of total exports.
El Salvador experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of hard rubber or plastic combs. At the same time, Brazil (+8.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +8.3% from 2012-2022. Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Chile (-6.1%), Guatemala (-8.2%), Colombia (-19.9%) and Panama (-24.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. El Salvador (+26 p.p.), Brazil (+14 p.p.), Mexico (+10 p.p.), Chile (+3.1 p.p.) and Guatemala (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Colombia and Panama saw its share reduced by -9.7% and -29.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, El Salvador ($X), Mexico ($X) and Chile ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 59% of total exports.
El Salvador, with a CAGR of +6.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -14.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while El Salvador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by El Salvador (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Hard Plastic Comb Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
Hard plastic comb imports rose to X tons in 2022, picking up by 3% against 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 94%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hard plastic comb imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 71%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Mexico (X tons) was the largest importer of hard rubber or plastic combs, making up 31% of total imports. Brazil (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Peru (9.4%), Chile (8.7%), Haiti (5.7%) and Guatemala (4.8%). Colombia (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons), Argentina (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Venezuela (X tons) and Bolivia (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of hard rubber or plastic combs. At the same time, Haiti (+14.9%), the Dominican Republic (+8.5%), Nicaragua (+6.9%), Chile (+6.9%), Bolivia (+6.5%) and Ecuador (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Haiti emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +14.9% from 2012-2022. Guatemala, Brazil, Argentina and Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Venezuela (-2.8%) and Colombia (-12.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Haiti and Chile increased by +4.3 and +4.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X), Peru ($X) and Brazil ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 45% share of total imports. Chile, Haiti, Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Haiti, with a CAGR of +22.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -5.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Nicaragua ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bolivia (+7.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
