Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, shipments abroad of headgear of rubber or plastic was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 76%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plastic headgear exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, faced a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 142%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Brazil (X units) and Mexico (X units) represented the key exporters of headgear of rubber or plastic in 2022, finishing at approx. 33% and 27% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Paraguay (X units), Chile (X units) and Panama (X units), together achieving a 27% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Dominican Republic (X units) and Colombia (X units) - each accounted for a 7.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Paraguay (with a CAGR of +114.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest plastic headgear supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Chile ($X), together comprising 73% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Panama and Colombia, which together accounted for a further 23%.
Paraguay, with a CAGR of +98.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -14.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 38%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per unit), while Paraguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Dominican Republic (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Plastic Headgear Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, purchases abroad of headgear of rubber or plastic increased by 13% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plastic headgear imports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the nine major importers of headgear of rubber or plastic, namely Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Ecuador, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bolivia (with a CAGR of +19.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest plastic headgear importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Chile ($X), together accounting for 53% of total imports. Panama, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Ecuador and Bolivia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.
Bolivia, with a CAGR of +13.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Bolivia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
