Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, exports of hedge shears and two-handed pruning shears in Latin America and the Caribbean dropped sharply to X tons, with a decrease of -24.7% against the year before. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 235%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hedge shear exports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 407% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

Mexico represented the main exporter of hedge shears and two-handed pruning shears in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 64% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), creating a 33% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +3.6%).

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest hedge shear supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.

In Mexico, hedge shear exports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -20.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 51%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Brazil stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (-0.5%).

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, purchases abroad of hedge shears and two-handed pruning shears was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hedge shear imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Mexico (X tons) represented the largest importer of hedge shears and two-handed pruning shears, constituting 29% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Chile (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Peru (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Argentina (X tons), together committing a 44% share of total imports. The following importers - Bolivia (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Panama (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.

Imports into Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Brazil (+14.8%), El Salvador (+11.6%), Guatemala (+11.0%), Chile (+10.4%), Ecuador (+9.5%), Costa Rica (+8.2%), Bolivia (+5.6%), Panama (+4.3%), Colombia (+4.3%) and Peru (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +14.8% from 2012-2021. Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Brazil (+6.7 p.p.), Mexico (+4.5 p.p.) and Chile (+4.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Argentina saw its share reduced by -2.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hedge shears and two-handed pruning shears in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 9.5% share.

In Mexico, hedge shear imports increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (+5.3% per year) and Peru (+8.3% per year).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
