The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Brazil (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and Colombia (X tons), together comprising 70% of total production. Argentina, Peru, Guatemala and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +4.8%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Chicken Egg Exports

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, approx. X tons of chicken eggs were exported in Latin America and the Caribbean; declining by -6.9% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports showed a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 65%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chicken egg exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X tons) represented the key exporter of chicken eggs, committing 66% of total exports. Mexico (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Panama (X tons) and Argentina (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 25% share of total exports. Honduras (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -5.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Panama (+239.7%), Guatemala (+69.0%), Argentina (+49.6%), Mexico (+30.8%) and Honduras (+21.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Panama emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +239.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Costa Rica (-12.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mexico (+10 p.p.), Panama (+6.9 p.p.), Argentina (+6.8 p.p.), Honduras (+2.5 p.p.) and Guatemala (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Costa Rica (-3.4 p.p.) and Brazil (-5.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest chicken egg supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Panama ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Costa Rica, with a 3.9% share.

In Brazil, chicken egg exports contracted by an average annual rate of -1.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Panama (+235.8% per year) and Costa Rica (-9.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 27% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, supplies from abroad of chicken eggs decreased by -41.8% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted measured growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 141% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chicken egg imports reached $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 142%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Mexico (X tons) was the major importer of chicken eggs, mixing up 36% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Jamaica (X tons), Bahamas (X tons) and Trinidad and Tobago (X tons), together generating a 30% share of total imports. Paraguay (X tons), Chile (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons), Aruba (X tons), El Salvador (X tons), Guyana (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons), Haiti (X tons) and Barbados (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to chicken egg imports into Mexico stood at +1.5%. At the same time, Chile (+169.0%), Barbados (+101.7%), Guyana (+39.0%), Aruba (+25.7%), Costa Rica (+20.4%), Bahamas (+20.2%), El Salvador (+13.4%), Jamaica (+11.0%), Trinidad and Tobago (+8.8%) and Paraguay (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +169.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Nicaragua (-7.9%) and Haiti (-13.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Bahamas, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Chile, El Salvador, Guyana, Aruba, Barbados and Costa Rica increased by +8.2, +6.4, +3.9, +3.4, +2.2, +2.1, +2, +1.8 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chicken eggs in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Jamaica ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Trinidad and Tobago, with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico totaled +11.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Jamaica (+14.0% per year) and Trinidad and Tobago (+8.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 73% against the previous year. Import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, chicken egg import price increased by +80.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guyana ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guyana (+13.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
