In Brazil, horizontal machining centre exports decreased by an average annual rate of -7.5% over the period from 2012-2021.

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, surging by 105% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 108%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Mexico totaled $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+19.7%).

In 2021, supplies from abroad of horizontal machining centres for working metal was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, horizontal machining centre imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Mexico (X units) was the main importer of horizontal machining centres for working metal, committing 51% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X units) and Argentina (X units), together mixing up a 31% share of total imports. The following importers - Peru (X units), Chile (X units) and Colombia (X units) - each resulted at a 12% share of total imports.

Imports into Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -4.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Peru (+8.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +8.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Chile (-3.1%), Colombia (-3.6%), Argentina (-5.0%) and Brazil (-11.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (+8.8 p.p.) and Peru (+3.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -15% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Argentina ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 91% of total imports. Colombia, Peru and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.3%.

Peru, with a CAGR of +9.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 9.9%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Chile ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
