The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -4.8% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 36%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, approx. X tons of household hand tools were exported in Latin America and the Caribbean; falling by -4.6% against the year before. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, household hand tools exports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 34%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Mexico was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 52% of total exports. Chile (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Brazil (X tons). All these countries together took near 32% share of total exports. The following exporters - Peru (X tons), Panama (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons) - together made up 11% of total exports.

Exports from Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -4.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Peru (+6.4%) and Chile (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +6.4% from 2012-2021. Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Guatemala (-10.9%) and Panama (-18.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Chile (+10 p.p.), Brazil (+4 p.p.) and Peru (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Mexico, Guatemala and Panama saw its share reduced by -1.9%, -3.3% and -11.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest household hand tools supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (-1.6% per year) and Chile (-12.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 2.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Panama ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, approx. X tons of household hand tools were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; picking up by 59% on the previous year. Overall, imports saw buoyant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, household hand tools imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +65.6% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, El Salvador (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) represented the major importers of household hand tools in Latin America and the Caribbean, together constituting 44% of total imports. Chile (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Mexico (9.1%), Colombia (6.8%) and Argentina (5.4%). Peru (X tons), Bolivia (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Guatemala (X tons) and Costa Rica (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by El Salvador (with a CAGR of +42.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest household hand tools importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), El Salvador ($X) and Brazil ($X), together accounting for 53% of total imports.

El Salvador, with a CAGR of +48.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
