Guatemala (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to hydantoin exports from Brazil stood at +9.6%. At the same time, Colombia (+12.6%) and Guatemala (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +12.6% from 2012-2022. Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Brazil, Colombia and Argentina increased by +72, +8.2 and +6.4 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest hydantoin supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with an 8.8% share.
In Brazil, hydantoin exports increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (+1.5% per year) and Argentina (-7.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -2.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 23%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (-0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Hydantoin Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, supplies from abroad of hydantoin and its derivatives decreased by -9.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 19%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hydantoin imports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Brazil was the largest importer of hydantoin and its derivatives in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 57% of total imports in 2022. Argentina (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (11%), Chile (5.6%) and Mexico (5%). The following importers - Ecuador (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons) - each resulted at a 4.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to hydantoin imports into Brazil stood at +4.0%. At the same time, Ecuador (+27.9%), Guatemala (+13.5%), Colombia (+12.9%) and Argentina (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ecuador emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +27.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Chile (-1.7%) and Mexico (-15.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+19 p.p.), Colombia (+7.5 p.p.), Argentina (+2.7 p.p.) and Ecuador (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mexico saw its share reduced by -23% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hydantoin and its derivatives in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 7.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 5.3% share.
In Brazil, hydantoin imports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (-7.2% per year) and Chile (+6.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, growing by 16% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 39%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
