The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hypochlorites, chlorites and hypobromites exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a resilient expansion. It was distantly followed by Uruguay (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Peru (X tons), El Salvador (X tons) and Brazil (X tons), together creating a 42% share of total exports. Costa Rica (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Guatemala increased at an average annual rate of +31.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uruguay (+52.2%), the Dominican Republic (+36.1%), Peru (+18.8%), Brazil (+13.1%) and Costa Rica (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +52.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, El Salvador (-1.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Guatemala (+41 p.p.), Uruguay (+10 p.p.), the Dominican Republic (+7.6 p.p.) and Peru (+3.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Costa Rica (-4.9 p.p.) and El Salvador (-18.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Guatemala ($X) remains the largest hypochlorites, chlorites and hypobromites supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by the Dominican Republic, with an 8.6% share.

In Guatemala, hypochlorites, chlorites and hypobromites exports increased at an average annual rate of +34.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (+7.3% per year) and the Dominican Republic (+22.4% per year).

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
