Skates Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

After three years of decline, the Latin American skates market increased by 49% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Skates Production in Latin America and the Caribbean

In value terms, skates production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +41.9% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Skates Exports

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, approx. X tons of ice skates and roller skates were exported in Latin America and the Caribbean; which is down by -25.7% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 358%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, skates exports dropped notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 211%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Mexico represented the key exporter of ice skates and roller skates in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 71% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Panama (X tons), generating an 18% share of total exports. Chile (X kg), Brazil (X kg) and Venezuela (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to skates exports from Mexico stood at +26.9%. At the same time, Venezuela (+83.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Venezuela emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +83.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Chile (-5.6%), Brazil (-10.4%) and Panama (-14.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mexico (+62 p.p.) and Venezuela (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Chile (-2.1 p.p.), Brazil (-4.7 p.p.) and Panama (-58.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest skates supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Panama ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 5% share.

In Mexico, skates exports expanded at an average annual rate of +20.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Panama (-15.1% per year) and Chile (-4.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Panama ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Skates Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of ice skates and roller skates, when their volume increased by 81% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 101% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, skates imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 102%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of skates imports in 2021 were Brazil (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Mexico (X tons), together finishing at 68% of total import. Argentina (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Peru (7%) and Chile (5.9%). Uruguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +6.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ice skates and roller skates in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with an 11% share.

In Mexico, skates imports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+0.4% per year) and Chile (+6.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -6.4% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 17%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+6.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
