Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, after nine years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof, when their volume decreased by -13.5% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 102%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, imines exports dropped to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from Brazil (X tons), together finishing at 97% of total export.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the imines and their derivatives and salts thereof exports, with a CAGR of +53.5% from 2012 to 2021. Brazil (+73 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) also remains the largest imines supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil amounted to +36.0%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 3.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 16%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Brazil.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Brazil amounted to -11.4% per year.

Imines Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

For the third year in a row, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded growth in purchases abroad of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof, which increased by 7.4% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 33%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, imines imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +23.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 70%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Brazil dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 66% of total imports in 2021. Chile (X tons) held a 9.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (6.7%), Mexico (6.2%) and Argentina (5.7%). Peru (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Chile (+16.4%), Colombia (+11.6%), Peru (+9.2%) and Argentina (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +16.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mexico (-11.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil, Chile and Colombia increased by +15, +5.9 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported imines and their derivatives and salts thereof in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 6.8% share.

In Brazil, imines imports increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (-6.2% per year) and Chile (+14.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 28% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+6.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
