In 2021, after eight years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of imitation jewelry, when their volume increased by 49% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imitation jewellery exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced contraction. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Guatemala (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) represented roughly 42% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons), together committing a 47% share of total exports. The Dominican Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by El Salvador (with a CAGR of +25.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest imitation jewellery supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Colombia ($X), El Salvador ($X) and Mexico ($X), together comprising 59% of total exports.

El Salvador, with a CAGR of +47.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -5.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was El Salvador ($X per ton), while Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+19.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, imitation jewellery imports in Latin America and the Caribbean skyrocketed to X tons, with an increase of 49% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imitation jewellery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons), Chile (X tons), Mexico (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Peru (X tons), Bolivia (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Argentina (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), El Salvador (X tons) and Costa Rica (X tons) represented the major importer of imitation jewelry in Latin America and the Caribbean, constituting 91% of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +16.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Chile ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 51% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Peru, Colombia, Guatemala, Argentina, Ecuador, El Salvador, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Bolivia, which together accounted for a further 39%.

In terms of the main importing countries, El Salvador, with a CAGR of +8.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+9.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
