Argentina dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 76% of total exports in 2021. Peru (X tons), Honduras (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Panama (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Argentina increased at an average annual rate of +10.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Panama (+122.2%), Guatemala (+42.3%), Honduras (+28.4%), Peru (+11.0%) and Ecuador (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Panama emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +122.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Brazil (-11.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Argentina (+12 p.p.), Guatemala (+3.3 p.p.), Honduras (+3 p.p.) and Panama (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Ecuador (-1.9 p.p.) and Brazil (-16 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Argentina ($X) remains the largest industrial monocarboxylic fatty acids supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with an 8.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 6.7% share.

In Argentina, industrial monocarboxylic fatty acids exports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Peru (+17.7% per year) and Brazil (-10.1% per year).

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight setback. For the fifth year in a row, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded growth in overseas purchases of industrial monocarboxylic fatty acids, which increased by 52% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports saw a remarkable increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Chile was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 59% of total imports. Mexico (X tons) took a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (12%). The following importers - Panama (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and Guyana (X tons) - together made up 8.6% of total imports.

Imports into Chile increased at an average annual rate of +22.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Panama (+139.5%), Guyana (+108.8%), Mexico (+11.8%) and Colombia (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Panama emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +139.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Brazil (-2.5%) and Costa Rica (-6.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Chile (+36 p.p.), Panama (+3.4 p.p.), Mexico (+1.7 p.p.) and Guyana (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Costa Rica and Brazil saw its share reduced by -5% and -24.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest industrial monocarboxylic fatty acids importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Chile ($X), Mexico ($X) and Brazil ($X), together comprising 88% of total imports. Panama, Guyana, Colombia and Costa Rica lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.5%.

Panama, with a CAGR of +118.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
