In 2022, shipments abroad of iron or steel crown corks decreased by -7.5% to X units, falling for the seventh year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 9.6%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

The following exporters - Costa Rica (X units) and Brazil (X units) - each reached a 6.8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to metal crown cork exports from Mexico stood at -4.8%. At the same time, Peru (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +2.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Honduras (-3.2%), Costa Rica (-4.3%) and Brazil (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Panama (with a CAGR of +26.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Argentina ($X) and Brazil ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 36% share of total imports. The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per thousand units in 2022, surging by 29% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per thousand units), while Colombia ($X per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
