In 2021, purchases abroad of iron or steel hot-worked helical springs decreased by -9.1% to X tons, falling for the seventh year in a row after three years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 45%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. Imports into Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -9.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+28.0%), Chile (+21.8%), Peru (+7.4%) and Brazil (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +28.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+5.4 p.p.), Brazil (+3.9 p.p.), the Dominican Republic (+1.9 p.p.) and Peru (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Mexico (-15.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported iron or steel hot-worked helical springs in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 9.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 2.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+1.4% per year) and Chile (+6.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
