Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, shipments abroad of iron/steel stud-link chain decreased by -37.3% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 97%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, metal stud-link chain exports fell sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2021, the Dominican Republic (X tons), distantly followed by Trinidad and Tobago (X tons), Mexico (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Jamaica (X tons) were the key exporters of iron/steel stud-link chain, together comprising 91% of total exports. The following exporters - Argentina (X tons) and Panama (X tons) - together made up 4.7% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Jamaica (with a CAGR of +103.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest metal stud-link chain supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were the Dominican Republic ($X), Trinidad and Tobago ($X) and Mexico ($X), with a combined 76% share of total exports.
The Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +109.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 74% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Dominican Republic (+15.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Metal Stud-Link Chain Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, purchases abroad of iron/steel stud-link chain decreased by -7.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a notable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, metal stud-link chain imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -2.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 72% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Chile represented the major importer of iron/steel stud-link chain in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 57% of total imports in 2021. Panama (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Peru (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 29% share of total imports. The following importers - Ecuador (X tons) and the Dominican Republic (X tons) - together made up 4.5% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to metal stud-link chain imports into Chile stood at +4.0%. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+17.0%), Panama (+4.7%) and Peru (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +17.0% from 2012-2021. Ecuador experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Chile (+4.9 p.p.) and Panama (+3.2 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported iron/steel stud-link chain in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Panama ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 5.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Chile stood at +4.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Panama (+5.5% per year) and Peru (+3.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per ton), while the Dominican Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
