The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 7.2% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In 2021, shipments abroad of jams, jellies, puree and pastes was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 7.2%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste exports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 6%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Chile was the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 47% of total exports. Guatemala (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 19% share, followed by Ecuador (13%) and Argentina (6.1%). The following exporters - Brazil (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and Costa Rica (X tons) - together made up 10% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to jam, jelly, puree and paste exports from Chile stood at -2.6%. At the same time, Brazil (+6.9%), Ecuador (+5.1%) and Guatemala (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +6.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Costa Rica (-3.2%), Argentina (-3.7%) and Mexico (-4.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Guatemala, Ecuador and Brazil increased by +7.1, +5 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest jam, jelly, puree and paste supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ecuador ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Guatemala, with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Chile amounted to -5.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ecuador (+3.5% per year) and Guatemala (+3.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -2.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 0.8%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Costa Rica (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of jams, jellies, puree and pastes, when their volume increased by 48% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Guatemala (X tons) and Chile (X tons) represented roughly 29% of total imports in 2021. Argentina (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.1% share, followed by Colombia (8.8%), El Salvador (6.9%), Ecuador (5.9%), Brazil (5.7%), Mexico (5.6%), Peru (5.3%) and Bolivia (4.5%).

In value terms, the largest jam, jelly, puree and paste importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Chile ($X), Guatemala ($X) and Brazil ($X), with a combined 37% share of total imports.
