The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 267%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lard imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. Mexico represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 46% of total imports. Cuba (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Bolivia (X tons) and Belize (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 52% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Belize (with a CAGR of +4.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lard in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cuba ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Bolivia, with a 17% share.

Import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade.
