In 2022, Mexico (X units) represented the largest exporter of lead-acid accumulators for starting piston engines, committing 77% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X units) and Brazil (X units), together making up a 19% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to starter battery exports from Mexico stood at +2.3%. At the same time, Colombia (+4.5%) and Brazil (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +4.5% from 2012-2022. Export price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.4% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 41%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then shrank in the following year.

Mexico represented the largest importer of lead-acid accumulators for starting piston engines in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was near 31% of total imports in 2022. Colombia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Peru (7.1%), Bolivia (7.1%), Chile (6.8%) and Argentina (6.6%). Guatemala (X units), the Dominican Republic (X units), Brazil (X units), Venezuela (X units), Paraguay (X units), Honduras (X units) and Ecuador (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to starter battery imports into Mexico stood at +11.6%. At the same time, Bolivia (+22.1%), Colombia (+9.5%), Peru (+8.7%), Guatemala (+7.0%), Ecuador (+5.2%), the Dominican Republic (+4.3%), Honduras (+3.8%), Paraguay (+3.3%) and Chile (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bolivia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +22.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Argentina (-2.1%), Venezuela (-2.1%) and Brazil (-13.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Mexico, Bolivia, Colombia and Peru increased by +15, +5.6, +3.7 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lead-acid accumulators for starting piston engines in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 27% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico totaled +9.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+3.0% per year) and Argentina (-1.9% per year).
