Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, shipments abroad of liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water increased by 17% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, exports continue to indicate a modest expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 223% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, liquid air and distilled water exports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 509%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Chile (X tons) was the main exporter of liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water, making up 61% of total exports. Brazil (X tons) took a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Guatemala (6%). The following exporters - Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) and Panama (X tons) - each accounted for a 6% share of total exports.
Exports from Chile increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Brazil (+25.1%) and Panama (+18.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +25.1% from 2012-2021. Guatemala experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Trinidad and Tobago (-16.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+20 p.p.), Chile (+14 p.p.) and Panama (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Trinidad and Tobago (-13.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest liquid air and distilled water supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Panama ($X), with a 2.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Guatemala, with a 1.4% share.
In Chile, liquid air and distilled water exports expanded at an average annual rate of +22.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Panama (+20.3% per year) and Guatemala (-5.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -25.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 88% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+17.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Liquid Or Compressed Air And Distilled Or Conductivity Water
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, imports of liquid or compressed air and distilled or conductivity water in Latin America and the Caribbean reduced modestly to X tons, approximately reflecting 2020. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, liquid air and distilled water imports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of liquid air and distilled water imports in 2021 were Brazil (X tons), Mexico (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Uruguay (X tons), together reaching 73% of total import. The following importers - Bahamas (X tons), Jamaica (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uruguay (with a CAGR of +101.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest liquid air and distilled water importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Chile ($X), together accounting for 59% of total imports. The Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Uruguay, Jamaica, Colombia and Ecuador lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.
Uruguay, with a CAGR of +48.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -3.7% against the previous year. Import price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, liquid air and distilled water import price increased by +84.0% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined slightly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per ton), while Uruguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Dominican Republic (+23.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
