The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, purchases abroad of liquid supply or production meters was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 552% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, liquid supply meter imports stood at $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Paraguay (X units) was the largest importer of liquid supply or production meters, achieving 54% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X units), Colombia (X units), Peru (X units) and Brazil (X units), together mixing up a 32% share of total imports. Chile (X units) and Ecuador (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Paraguay increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Chile (+12.4%), Mexico (+8.8%), Brazil (+6.1%), Colombia (+2.5%) and Peru (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +12.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ecuador (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Paraguay (+15 p.p.), Mexico (+4.6 p.p.) and Chile (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Peru and Ecuador saw its share reduced by -1.6% and -2.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Colombia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 51% of total imports. These countries were followed by Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Paraguay, which together accounted for a further 24%.

Paraguay, with a CAGR of +13.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the import price increased by 175% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Paraguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Paraguay (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
