In value terms, food manufacture machinery production expanded sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 31%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
Food manufacture machinery exports dropped rapidly to X units in 2021, which is down by -19.7% on the previous year's figure. In general, exports recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 49%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, food manufacture machinery exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Mexico represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which finished at 41% of total exports. Ecuador (X units) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (13%), Colombia (11%) and Chile (4.5%). The following exporters - Argentina (X units) and Honduras (X units) - each recorded a 6.4% share of total exports.
Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink exports, with a CAGR of +17.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Honduras (+7.6%) and Chile (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Argentina (-6.9%), Brazil (-7.6%) and Ecuador (-12.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (+36 p.p.), Colombia (+4.6 p.p.), Chile (+2.4 p.p.) and Honduras (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Brazil and Ecuador saw its share reduced by -1.7% and -13.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest food manufacture machinery supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 12% share.
In Mexico, food manufacture machinery exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (+1.9% per year) and Brazil (-7.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 36% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 98%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per unit), while Honduras ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Honduras (+8.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Food Manufacture Machinery Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink, when their volume increased by 49% to X units. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 53%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, food manufacture machinery imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Chile (X units) and Guatemala (X units) represented the main importers of machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink in 2021, finishing at near 27% and 26% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Panama (X units), Mexico (X units), Ecuador (X units) and Honduras (X units), together making up a 21% share of total imports. Peru (X units), Argentina (X units), Bolivia (X units), El Salvador (X units), Nicaragua (X units) and Belize (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Chile (with a CAGR of +35.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X), Chile ($X) and Guatemala ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 66% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Panama, Honduras, Bolivia, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Belize, which together accounted for a further 19%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Panama, with a CAGR of +22.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, rising by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Belize ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (+15.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
