Ecuador represented the main exporter of mackerel (prepared or preserved) in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 83% of total exports in 2021. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, preserved mackerel imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2021, Jamaica (X tons) was the main importer of mackerel (prepared or preserved), comprising 41% of total imports.
