The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +2.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Mexico (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Colombia (X tons), with a combined 77% share of total production. Peru, Haiti, Cuba and Guatemala lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +10.0%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average mango and mangosteen yield in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at X tons per ha, remaining constant against 2021 figures. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the mango and mangosteen yield attained the maximum level at X tons per ha in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, approx. X ha of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas were harvested in Latin America and the Caribbean; which is down by -1.7% compared with the previous year. In general, the harvested area saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the harvested area increased by 3.4% against the previous year. Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas decreased by -5.3% to X tons in 2022. Total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +92.3% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined modestly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Mexico was the major exporter of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 43% of total exports in 2022. Peru (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Brazil (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 52% share of total exports. Guatemala (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +9.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Peru ($X) and Brazil ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 89% of total exports.

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 2.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, mango and mangosteen export price decreased by -21.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per ton), while Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, overseas purchases of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas decreased by -12.8% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports declined to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

Chile represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 44% of total imports. Argentina (X tons) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mexico (11%), El Salvador (7.9%) and Panama (6.4%). Guatemala (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mango and mangosteen imports into Chile stood at +11.2%. At the same time, Panama (+154.8%), Guatemala (+16.5%) and Argentina (+8.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Panama emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +154.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, El Salvador (-1.1%), Mexico (-1.3%) and Colombia (-7.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Chile (+17 p.p.), Panama (+6.4 p.p.), Argentina (+3.4 p.p.) and Guatemala (+2.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Colombia, El Salvador and Mexico saw its share reduced by -6.7%, -7.5% and -11.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mangoes, mangosteens and guavas in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Chile totaled +13.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (-2.7% per year) and Argentina (+6.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 7.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while El Salvador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
