Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +72.4% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Brazil represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 57% of total exports. Mexico (X tons) took a 32% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Peru (8.3%).
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +36.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest marble building stone supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil totaled +32.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-4.8% per year) and Peru (-11.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (-3.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Marble Building Stone Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of marble building stone increased by 23% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, marble building stone imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Mexico (X tons), distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Panama (X tons) represented the key importers of marble building stone, together constituting 75% of total imports. The following importers - Venezuela (X tons), Peru (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Chile (X tons) - together made up 15% of total imports.
Imports into Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -3.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Panama (+42.5%), the Dominican Republic (+17.2%) and Peru (+9.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Panama emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +42.5% from 2012-2021. Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Colombia (-1.1%), Ecuador (-1.8%), Chile (-4.4%), Venezuela (-10.7%) and Brazil (-11.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Dominican Republic, Panama, Peru and Argentina increased by +9.2, +5.3, +2.9 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported marble building stone in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-11.0% per year) and Argentina (+2.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, surging by 5.1% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Venezuela ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+3.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
