From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Brazil (with a CAGR of +17.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 17%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Nicaragua, Cuba and Honduras experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, El Salvador (-2.3%) and Venezuela (-15.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+4.5 p.p.), Peru (+4.2 p.p.), Bolivia (+3.5 p.p.), Colombia (+3.3 p.p.), Chile (+2.9 p.p.), Ecuador (+2.3 p.p.), Panama (+1.9 p.p.) and Guatemala (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Venezuela (-9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported medicaments of penicillins, streptomycins or derivatives thereof in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ecuador ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil stood at +2.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ecuador (+4.6% per year) and Colombia (+0.1% per year).
