Men Swimwear Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, the Latin American men swimwear market increased by 1% to $X, rising for the fifth year in a row after four years of decline. The total consumption indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +93.8% against 2016 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Men Swimwear Production in Latin America and the Caribbean
In value terms, men swimwear production shrank to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate measured growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 57%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, men swimwear exports in Latin America and the Caribbean soared to X units, with an increase of 48% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 164%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, men swimwear exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 182% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Nicaragua was the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which recorded 51% of total exports. Colombia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Mexico (X units). All these countries together took approx. 35% share of total exports. The following exporters - Panama (X units), Brazil (X units) and Chile (X units) - together made up 10% of total exports.
Nicaragua was also the fastest-growing in terms of the men’s swimwear (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles) exports, with a CAGR of +45.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mexico (+34.6%), Chile (+31.6%) and Colombia (+3.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Panama (-16.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Nicaragua (+51 p.p.), Mexico (+13 p.p.) and Chile (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Brazil (-2.6 p.p.), Colombia (-9.4 p.p.) and Panama (-35.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Nicaragua ($X) remains the largest men swimwear supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 16% share.
In Nicaragua, men swimwear exports increased at an average annual rate of +47.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (+5.6% per year) and Chile (+22.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -3.6% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Panama ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Men Swimwear Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, supplies from abroad of men’s swimwear (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles) increased by 33% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -19.5% against 2018 indices. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, men swimwear imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Mexico (X units) and Chile (X units) were the key importers of men’s swimwear (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles) in 2021, finishing at approx. 31% and 29% of total imports, respectively. Argentina (X units) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Peru (6.2%). Uruguay (X units), Brazil (X units) and Colombia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Argentina (with a CAGR of +13.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X), Chile ($X) and Argentina ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 70% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Argentina, with a CAGR of +6.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 6.3%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Argentina ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
