Mica Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Latin American mica market dropped significantly to $X in 2021, falling by -33.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the one major exporters of mica, namely Brazil, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mica exports, with a CAGR of -1.4% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) also remains the largest mica supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil was relatively modest.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 37%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Brazil.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Brazil amounted to +0.5% per year.

Mica Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

Mica imports fell dramatically to X tons in 2021, declining by -30.2% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mica imports fell markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Mexico was the key importer of mica in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 50% of total imports in 2021. Brazil (X tons) held a 31% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (7.7%) and Bahamas (4.9%). Uruguay (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Uruguay (with a CAGR of +21.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Bahamas ($X) and Mexico ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 86% share of total imports. Argentina and Uruguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 4.1%.

Uruguay, with a CAGR of -3.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -10.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 50%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Bahamas ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahamas (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
