Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
Paper pulp moulded articles exports rose remarkably to X tons in 2022, with an increase of 11% on 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 24%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, paper pulp moulded articles exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +57.1% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Mexico was the main exporter of moulded or pressed articles of paper pulp in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 57% of total exports in 2022. Guatemala (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Venezuela (X tons). All these countries together took near 25% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Dominican Republic (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Panama (X tons) - together made up 13% of total exports.
Exports from Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Venezuela (+53.5%), Panama (+48.7%), Guatemala (+12.7%), Chile (+5.7%) and the Dominican Republic (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Venezuela emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +53.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Argentina (-8.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Guatemala (+8.5 p.p.), Venezuela (+8.5 p.p.) and Panama (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Mexico (-4.4 p.p.) and Argentina (-11.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest paper pulp moulded articles supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Guatemala ($X), with a 9.4% share of total exports. It was followed by the Dominican Republic, with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico totaled +8.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Guatemala (+11.3% per year) and the Dominican Republic (+17.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 14%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per ton), while Venezuela ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Dominican Republic (+12.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of moulded or pressed articles of paper pulp, when their volume increased by 6% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, paper pulp moulded articles imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Mexico (X tons) represented the major importer of moulded or pressed articles of paper pulp, comprising 32% of total imports. Chile (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Peru (9%), Costa Rica (8.3%), El Salvador (7%) and Guatemala (4.6%). Barbados (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons), Honduras (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -1.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Barbados (+79.6%), Peru (+24.7%), Guatemala (+20.6%), El Salvador (+6.2%), Nicaragua (+5.8%), Costa Rica (+4.3%), Chile (+4.1%) and Argentina (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Barbados emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +79.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Honduras (-3.6%), Ecuador (-5.8%) and Brazil (-12.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Peru (+7.9 p.p.), Guatemala (+3.8 p.p.), Barbados (+3.7 p.p.), Chile (+3 p.p.), El Salvador (+2.6 p.p.) and Costa Rica (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Ecuador (-3.7 p.p.), Mexico (-9.7 p.p.) and Brazil (-10 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Barbados, with a 7.4% share.
In Mexico, paper pulp moulded articles imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Chile (+6.3% per year) and Barbados (+80.5% per year).
