Total exports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +7.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 69% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Colombia (X units) was the key exporter of moulds for mineral materials, mixing up 55% of total exports. Mexico (X units) took a 33% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (7.6%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mexico (with a CAGR of +6.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Colombia ($X) and Brazil ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 96% of total exports.

Mexico, with a CAGR of +7.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 8.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 11%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Colombia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, overseas purchases of moulds for mineral materials increased by 5.6% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mould for mineral materials imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the key importer of moulds for mineral materials in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was approx. 48% of total imports in 2022. Mexico (X units) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (7.3%) and the Dominican Republic (7%). El Salvador (X units), Peru (X units), Cuba (X units), Guatemala (X units), Panama (X units) and Ecuador (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cuba (+40.3%), the Dominican Republic (+23.9%), Panama (+18.2%), Colombia (+9.1%) and Peru (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cuba emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +40.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, El Salvador (-1.8%), Guatemala (-2.4%), Mexico (-4.1%) and Ecuador (-14.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Cuba increased by +14, +6.2, +4.5 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and the Dominican Republic ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 69% of total imports. Colombia, Guatemala, Cuba, El Salvador, Ecuador, Peru and Panama lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cuba, with a CAGR of +42.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -9.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Panama ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by El Salvador (+12.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
