Memories Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in the Latin American memories market, when its value increased by 0.3% to $X. In general, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Memories Production in Latin America and the Caribbean
In value terms, memories production expanded rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.
Memories Exports
Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, approx. X units of multichip integrated circuits: memories were exported in Latin America and the Caribbean; waning by -27.3% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, saw a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2020, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, memories exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Mexico represented the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which reached 79% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X units), mixing up a 20% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to memories exports from Mexico stood at +2.5%. At the same time, Brazil (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +6.9% from 2012-2021. While the share of Brazil (+6.9 p.p.) and Mexico (+3.5 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest memories supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X) and Brazil ($X).
In terms of the main exporting countries, Brazil, with a CAGR of +16.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -15.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Mexico stood at $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+9.3%).
Memories Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, approx. X units of multichip integrated circuits: memories were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; growing by 3.6% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -27.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, memories imports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Mexico was the key importing country with an import of about X units, which amounted to 71% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X units), making up a 27% share of total imports.
Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the multichip integrated circuits: memories imports, with a CAGR of +5.0% from 2012 to 2021. Brazil (-1.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (+14 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -11.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the largest memories importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Brazil ($X) and Mexico ($X).
Brazil, with a CAGR of +8.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, dropping by -14.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the import price increased by 52%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Mexico amounted to $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+10.2%).
