In value terms, nail and bolt exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Mexico was the major exporter of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 56% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), mixing up a 23% share of total exports. The following exporters - Colombia (X tons), Guatemala (X tons) and Peru (X tons) - each reached a 12% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to nail and bolt exports from Mexico stood at +8.3%. At the same time, Guatemala (+32.7%), Brazil (+4.7%), Peru (+4.6%) and Colombia (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest nail and bolt supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 26% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 3.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico amounted to +7.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (+0.5% per year) and Colombia (+0.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts were finally on the rise to reach X tons after six years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, nail and bolt imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Mexico (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) represented the largest importers of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts in Latin America and the Caribbean, together mixing up 51% of total imports. Chile (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Argentina (6%), Colombia (6%) and Peru (5.9%). The following importers - the Dominican Republic (X tons), Bolivia (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons) - each recorded a 10% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +13.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
