The Latin American narrow woven fabric market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced setback. In 2021, approx. X tons of narrow woven fabrics were exported in Latin America and the Caribbean; picking up by 5.2% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 12%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric exports reached $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The biggest shipments were from El Salvador (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and Brazil (X tons), together recording 68% of total export. Honduras (X tons) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Guatemala (6.5%), Paraguay (5.1%) and the Dominican Republic (5.1%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Paraguay (with a CAGR of +76.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), El Salvador ($X) and Honduras ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 69% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Brazil, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and Paraguay, which together accounted for a further 25%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Paraguay, with a CAGR of +65.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 5.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Honduras (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of narrow woven fabrics were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; growing by 35% on 2020. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible descent. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Brazil (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the Dominican Republic (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), El Salvador (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Chile (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 41% share of total imports. Peru (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons), Haiti (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -9.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Nicaragua (+29.2%), Peru (+10.6%), Ecuador (+7.2%), Chile (+6.4%), Brazil (+6.0%), the Dominican Republic (+5.5%), Colombia (+4.8%), Guatemala (+2.8%) and El Salvador (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nicaragua emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +29.2% from 2012-2021. Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Haiti (-11.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Nicaragua, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala and El Salvador increased by +7.6, +3.7, +3, +2.8, +2.8, +2.8, +2.5 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 7.6% share of total imports. It was followed by the Dominican Republic, with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico amounted to -2.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+1.4% per year) and the Dominican Republic (+5.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -9.6% against the previous year. Import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, narrow woven fabric import price decreased by -34.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nicaragua ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nicaragua (+18.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
