Argentina (X tons) and Chile (X tons) dominates exports structure, together comprising 80% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), creating a 5.8% share of total exports. The following exporters - Colombia (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) - together made up 10% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Peru (with a CAGR of +8.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest natural polymers supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Argentina ($X), Chile ($X) and Brazil ($X), together comprising 94% of total exports. Peru, Colombia and Mexico lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 4.2%.
Peru, with a CAGR of +14.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -5.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+9.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Natural Polymers Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
Natural polymers imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, growing by 17% on 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, natural polymers imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Mexico (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) were the main importers of natural and modified natural polymers in primary forms in 2021, reaching near 33% and 27% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Chile (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Peru (X tons), together committing a 30% share of total imports. Ecuador (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +10.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Argentina ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 70% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Chile, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, which together accounted for a further 22%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Chile, with a CAGR of +5.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 3.3% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
