The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.
Non-Alloy Aluminium Bar Exports
Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, overseas shipments of non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles increased by 17% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 61% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-alloy aluminium bar exports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Mexico prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 83% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Brazil (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) - each recorded a 12% share of total exports.
Exports from Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -1.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ecuador (+64.4%), Colombia (+29.0%) and Costa Rica (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ecuador emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +64.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Brazil (-14.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (+27 p.p.), Ecuador (+3 p.p.) and Colombia (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -4.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest non-alloy aluminium bar supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 6.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 2.5% share.
In Mexico, non-alloy aluminium bar exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-12.5% per year) and Colombia (+24.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -13.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 26% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Ecuador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Non-Alloy Aluminium Bar Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
After three years of decline, purchases abroad of non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles increased by 33% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-alloy aluminium bar imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Mexico was the key importer of non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 44% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Bolivia (X tons), Panama (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Brazil (X tons), together mixing up a 32% share of total imports. The following importers - Guatemala (X tons), Chile (X tons), Colombia (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Suriname (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.
Imports into Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -8.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Panama (+42.7%), the Dominican Republic (+28.3%), Guatemala (+12.8%), Bolivia (+4.6%) and Brazil (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Panama emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +42.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Suriname (-6.3%), Colombia (-7.4%), Chile (-10.0%), Argentina (-14.6%) and Peru (-15.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Panama (+8.4 p.p.), Bolivia (+6.8 p.p.), Brazil (+3.4 p.p.), Guatemala (+3.2 p.p.) and the Dominican Republic (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Argentina, Mexico and Peru saw its share reduced by -1.8%, -8.1% and -10.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-alloy aluminium bars, rods and profiles in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Panama ($X), with a 6.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Peru, with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico stood at -6.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Panama (+41.3% per year) and Peru (-15.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 6.1% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
