Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, overseas shipments of non-medical x-rays decreased by -8.3% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 179% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 108% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Mexico was the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 68% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), constituting a 27% share of total exports. Uruguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +34.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uruguay (+69.5%) and Brazil (+28.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +69.5% from 2012-2021. While the share of Mexico (+32 p.p.), Brazil (+6 p.p.) and Uruguay (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest non-medical x-ray supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.
In Mexico, non-medical x-ray exports expanded at an average annual rate of +23.5% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (+21.7% per year) and Uruguay (+37.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 75%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (-5.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Non-Medical X-Ray Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, purchases abroad of non-medical x-rays decreased by -4.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 39%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Mexico (X tons) was the largest importer of non-medical x-rays, constituting 52% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Colombia (X tons), together committing a 27% share of total imports. The following importers - Peru (X tons), Chile (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons) and the Dominican Republic (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.
Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of non-medical x-rays. At the same time, Argentina (+16.6%), the Dominican Republic (+15.2%), Peru (+10.1%) and Colombia (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Argentina emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +16.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Nicaragua (-2.5%), Brazil (-10.1%) and Chile (-14.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mexico (+13 p.p.), Argentina (+5.7 p.p.), Peru (+2.8 p.p.) and Colombia (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Chile (-7.5 p.p.) and Brazil (-15.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 41%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per ton), while Nicaragua ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nicaragua (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
