The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Overall, imports continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 59%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, optical fiber cables imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Mexico represented the major importer of optical fiber cables in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 43% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Argentina (X tons), together achieving a 36% share of total imports.
