In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of oxides of boron, boric acids and inorganic acids, when their volume decreased by -16.4% to X tons. In general, exports showed a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 8.4%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, oxides of boron exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a mild reduction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Chile represented the major exporter of oxides of boron, boric acids and inorganic acids in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 68% of total exports in 2022. Peru (X tons) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (14%). Guatemala (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Chile experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of oxides of boron, boric acids and inorganic acids. At the same time, Guatemala (+47.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guatemala emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +47.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Peru (-4.5%) and Argentina (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Chile and Guatemala increased by +14 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest oxides of boron supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Peru, with an 11% share.
In Chile, oxides of boron exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (-3.3% per year) and Peru (-5.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 65% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, oxides of boron export price increased by +78.7% against 2020 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Argentina ($X per ton) and Guatemala ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) and Chile ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
Oxides of boron imports dropped modestly to X tons in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
In value terms, oxides of boron imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +116.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 53%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Brazil was the major importer of oxides of boron, boric acids and inorganic acids in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 73% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X tons), constituting a 12% share of total imports. The following importers - Guatemala (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) - each recorded an 8.9% share of total imports.
Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Guatemala (+12.8%) and Ecuador (+9.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guatemala emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +12.8% from 2012-2022. Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Chile (-1.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+7.4 p.p.) and Guatemala (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Mexico (-2.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported oxides of boron, boric acids and inorganic acids in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 3.1% share.
In Brazil, oxides of boron imports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (+2.2% per year) and Chile (-2.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
