In 2021, shipments abroad of oxygen-function amino-compounds was finally on the rise to reach X tons after eight years of decline. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, oxygen-function amino-compound exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Brazil was the main exporter of oxygen-function amino-compounds in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 59% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X tons), achieving a 29% share of total exports. The following exporters - Guatemala (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) - together made up 8.2% of total exports.

Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -9.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Guatemala (+8.4%) and Colombia (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guatemala emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +8.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-18.5%) and Mexico (-19.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil and Guatemala increased by +22 and +3.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest oxygen-function amino-compound supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Guatemala, with a 3.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil amounted to -3.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (-16.3% per year) and Guatemala (+10.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -18.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 65%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+6.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

For the fifth year in a row, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded growth in purchases abroad of oxygen-function amino-compounds, which increased by 13% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.2% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, oxygen-function amino-compound imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) represented the largest importer of oxygen-function amino-compounds, comprising 43% of total imports. Mexico (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Colombia (15%), Argentina (5.8%) and Peru (4.9%). Chile (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ecuador (+11.9%), Colombia (+11.8%), Peru (+10.1%), Chile (+3.5%) and Mexico (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ecuador emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +11.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-2.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+15 p.p.) and Colombia (+5.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Argentina and Mexico saw its share reduced by -6.2% and -9.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Colombia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 73% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Argentina, Peru, Chile and Ecuador, which together accounted for a further 19%.

Ecuador, with a CAGR of +10.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 8.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
