By contrast, Argentina (-18.5%) and Mexico (-19.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil and Guatemala increased by +22 and +3.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest oxygen-function amino-compound supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Guatemala, with a 3.8% share.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.2% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Colombia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 73% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Argentina, Peru, Chile and Ecuador, which together accounted for a further 19%.

Ecuador, with a CAGR of +10.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
