In 2021, shipments abroad of ozone therapy, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, respiration apparatus increased by 164% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, respiration apparatus exports fell slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 38%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Mexico dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 95% of total exports in 2021. Costa Rica (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -62.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 672%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($X per ton), while Mexico stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+6.4%).

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, purchases abroad of ozone therapy, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, respiration apparatus decreased by -38.3% to X tons for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 157% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, respiration apparatus imports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 162%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Mexico was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 39% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), Peru (X tons), Chile (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Argentina (X tons), together committing a 43% share of total imports. Ecuador (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to respiration apparatus imports into Mexico stood at +10.5%. At the same time, Peru (+34.9%), Chile (+16.0%), Argentina (+10.4%), Brazil (+9.5%) and Ecuador (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +34.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Colombia (-1.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Peru (+9 p.p.), Chile (+2.4 p.p.) and Mexico (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Colombia (-9.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest respiration apparatus importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Peru ($X), with a combined 59% share of total imports.

Peru, with a CAGR of +33.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
