Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, exports of paper tablecloths and serviettes in Latin America and the Caribbean rose rapidly to X tons, picking up by 8% against 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild downturn. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, paper tablecloths exports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 9.9% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Guatemala (X tons) represented the main exporter of paper tablecloths and serviettes, constituting 39% of total exports. El Salvador (X tons) held a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Dominican Republic (9.4%), Brazil (6.6%), Colombia (6.2%), Mexico (5.7%) and Trinidad and Tobago (4.8%).
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +16.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest paper tablecloths supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Guatemala ($X), El Salvador ($X) and the Dominican Republic ($X), together accounting for 70% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, the Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +12.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 6.8%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Trinidad and Tobago (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Paper Tablecloths Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, supplies from abroad of paper tablecloths and serviettes was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -10.8% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 52%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, paper tablecloths imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Dominican Republic was the major importer of paper tablecloths and serviettes in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 39% of total imports in 2021. Guatemala (X tons) held a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Costa Rica (8.4%), Honduras (7.4%) and El Salvador (7%). Mexico (X tons), Panama (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons), Chile (X tons), Haiti (X tons), Paraguay (X tons), Aruba (X tons) and Uruguay (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
Imports into the Dominican Republic increased at an average annual rate of +26.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Aruba (+27.9%), Panama (+15.3%), El Salvador (+9.3%), Haiti (+8.5%), Uruguay (+4.9%), Costa Rica (+4.8%), Guatemala (+4.1%), Chile (+3.1%) and Honduras (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Aruba emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +27.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Nicaragua (-1.8%), Paraguay (-6.5%) and Mexico (-9.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Dominican Republic (+32 p.p.), El Salvador (+2.1 p.p.) and Panama (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nicaragua, Paraguay, Honduras and Mexico saw its share reduced by -2%, -3.1%, -3.1% and -10.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Dominican Republic ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported paper tablecloths and serviettes in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Costa Rica ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Guatemala, with a 9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Dominican Republic totaled +16.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Costa Rica (+6.4% per year) and Guatemala (+3.9% per year).

Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 6%.
