For the third year in a row, the Latin American peat market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption saw strong growth. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, peat exports rose to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) represented the major exporter of peat, achieving X% of total exports. Honduras (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Dominican Republic (X%) and Ecuador (X%). The following exporters - Argentina (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to peat exports from Brazil stood at +X%. At the same time, Honduras (+X%), the Dominican Republic (+X%) and Mexico (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Honduras emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ecuador (-X%) and Argentina (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Honduras (+X p.p.), the Dominican Republic (+X p.p.), Brazil (+X p.p.) and Ecuador (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Argentina saw its share reduced by -X% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Argentina ($X) remains the largest peat supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Honduras, with a X% share.

In Argentina, peat exports increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+X% per year) and Honduras (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, waning by -X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, peat export price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
