The Dominican Republic dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 74% of total exports in 2021. Argentina (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 6.2% share, followed by Mexico (5.7%). Colombia (X tons), Trinidad and Tobago (X tons), El Salvador (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

In the Dominican Republic, bath preparations exports increased at an average annual rate of +18.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (-7.0% per year) and Colombia (+5.4% per year).

In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Chile ($X) and Peru ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 45% share of total imports.

Peru, with a CAGR of +13.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Suriname ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
