Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, overseas shipments of persimmons were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, persimmon exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons), Chile (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and Peru (X tons) represented the major exporter of persimmons in Latin America and the Caribbean, generating 91% of total export. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), making up a 5.2% share of total exports. Uruguay (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Peru (with a CAGR of +59.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Persimmon Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, imports of persimmons in Latin America and the Caribbean declined to X tons, with a decrease of -7.3% compared with the year before. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -19.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, persimmon imports dropped significantly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -33.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 48%. The countries with the highest levels of persimmon imports in 2021 were Brazil (X tons), Bahamas (X tons) and Bolivia (X tons), together recording 85% of total import. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X tons), mixing up an 11% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Bolivia (with a CAGR of +81.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported persimmons in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bahamas ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 17% share.
