The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 7.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass decreased by -35.6% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 116%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, pigments, opacifiers and colours exports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 88% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X tons), achieving a 6.8% share of total exports. Panama (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass exports, with a CAGR of +23.9% from 2012 to 2022. Panama (-11.0%) and Mexico (-14.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+73 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Panama (-6.5 p.p.) and Mexico (-42.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest pigments, opacifiers and colours supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 23% share of total exports.

In Brazil, pigments, opacifiers and colours exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (-14.1% per year) and Panama (-6.7% per year).

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep contraction. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Panama (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, the amount of pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass imported in Latin America and the Caribbean dropped to X tons, which is down by -9.3% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 72%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, pigments, opacifiers and colours imports reduced to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +76.5% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 47%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

It was distantly followed by Guatemala (X tons), constituting a 7.1% share of total imports. The following importers - Colombia (X tons) and Peru (X tons) - together made up 6.8% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Argentina (with a CAGR of +24.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Argentina ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 72% of total imports. Ecuador, Colombia, Guatemala and Peru lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 10%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
