In 2021, the Latin American pile-driver market increased by 50% to $X, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a tangible increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pile-driver production expanded modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, shipments abroad of pile-drivers and pile-extractors increased by 109% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports recorded a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 138% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pile-driver exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw buoyant growth. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Mexico prevails in exports structure, recording X units, which was near 73% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X units), making up a 5.1% share of total exports. Brazil (X units), Panama (X units), Anguilla (X units), Argentina (X units), Costa Rica (X units) and Peru (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the pile-drivers and pile-extractors exports, with a CAGR of +53.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Colombia (+33.0%), Brazil (+30.5%), Panama (+30.5%) and Costa Rica (+18.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Anguilla experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Argentina (-2.4%) and Peru (-21.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (+69 p.p.), Colombia (+4 p.p.), Anguilla (+3.6 p.p.), Brazil (+3.2 p.p.), Panama (+3.2 p.p.) and Costa Rica (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Argentina and Peru saw its share reduced by -4% and -36.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest pile-driver supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 5.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Anguilla, with a 3.4% share.

In Mexico, pile-driver exports expanded at an average annual rate of +34.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+42.4% per year) and Anguilla (0.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 79%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Panama ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+9.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

Pile-driver imports contracted to X units in 2021, waning by -10.5% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pile-driver imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Chile (X units), distantly followed by Guatemala (X units), Panama (X units), Cuba (X units), Peru (X units), Colombia (X units), Mexico (X units) and Brazil (X units) represented the key importers of pile-drivers and pile-extractors, together making up 74% of total imports. Suriname (X units), Paraguay (X units), Antigua and Barbuda (X units), Nicaragua (X units) and Anguilla (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Antigua and Barbuda (with a CAGR of +73.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pile-drivers and pile-extractors in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Antigua and Barbuda ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Brazil, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Chile amounted to +16.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Antigua and Barbuda (+102.8% per year) and Brazil (-28.6% per year).

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Antigua and Barbuda ($X per unit), while Nicaragua ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
