The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +52.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 76%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Costa Rica prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 91% of total exports in 2021. Guatemala (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and Honduras (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Costa Rica increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Honduras (+11.9%), Mexico (+3.8%) and Guatemala (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Honduras emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +11.9% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Costa Rica increased by +10 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Costa Rica ($X) remains the largest pineapple juice (single strength) supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 3.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Guatemala, with a 2.6% share.

Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

These countries were followed by Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Saint Maarten (Dutch part), Antigua and Barbuda and Mexico, which together accounted for a further 37%.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guyana ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
