Cement Pipe Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Latin American cement pipe market dropped to $X in 2022, flattening at the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Cement Pipe Production in Latin America and the Caribbean

In value terms, cement pipe production contracted slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 26%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Cement Pipe Exports

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, after five years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of pipes and other articles of cement, when their volume decreased by -2.8% to X tons. In general, exports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 49%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

In value terms, cement pipe exports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Mexico dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 86% of total exports in 2022. El Salvador (X tons) took a 6% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (4.9%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cement pipe exports from Mexico stood at +8.9%. At the same time, Brazil (+33.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +33.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, El Salvador (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Mexico and Brazil increased by +17 and +4.4 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest cement pipe supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 5.9% share of total exports.

In Mexico, cement pipe exports increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+34.2% per year) and El Salvador (-7.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cement pipe export price decreased by -11.4% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 36% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while El Salvador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Cement Pipe Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, the amount of pipes and other articles of cement imported in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at X tons, growing by 8% against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 35%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cement pipe imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +82.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X tons), distantly followed by Argentina (X tons), Chile (X tons), Uruguay (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and Panama (X tons) were the largest importers of pipes and other articles of cement, together making up 71% of total imports. The following importers - Honduras (X tons), Peru (X tons), Mexico (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Venezuela (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons) - together made up 19% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Panama (with a CAGR of +72.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Argentina ($X) and Chile ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 56% of total imports. These countries were followed by Mexico, Uruguay, Panama, Costa Rica, Peru, Guatemala, Venezuela, Honduras and El Salvador, which together accounted for a further 32%.

Panama, with a CAGR of +63.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, rising by 8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 39%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Honduras ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by El Salvador (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
