Total exports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +25.9% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, plastic self-adhesive plate exports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Mexico was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 38% of total exports. Colombia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Brazil (14%), Chile (13%) and the Dominican Republic (8.8%). The following exporters - Guatemala (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) - each accounted for a 3.9% share of total exports.

Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of plastic self-adhesive plates, sheets and other flat shapes. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+19.0%), Guatemala (+12.1%), Colombia (+3.2%), Brazil (+3.0%) and Chile (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +19.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Argentina (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Dominican Republic and Colombia increased by +7 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest plastic self-adhesive plate supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico totaled +3.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+2.4% per year) and Colombia (+2.3% per year).

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 22%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the Dominican Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of plastic self-adhesive plates, sheets and other flat shapes decreased by -1.4% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

In value terms, plastic self-adhesive plate imports rose modestly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2022, Mexico (X tons) represented the key importer of plastic self-adhesive plates, sheets and other flat shapes, creating 53% of total imports. Brazil (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Chile (5.8%). Colombia (X tons), Peru (X tons), Argentina (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Bolivia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

While the share of Mexico (+1.7 p.p.) and Chile (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Argentina (-1.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
