Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, polyamide exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Mexico (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) represented roughly 81% of total exports in 2021. Argentina (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by Colombia (4.7%).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of polyamides (in primary forms) were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, polyamide imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) represented the key importer of polyamides (in primary forms), mixing up 48% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X tons) and Argentina (X tons), together committing a 37% share of total imports. Colombia (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Costa Rica (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +17.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
