In value terms, preserved turkey exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Brazil prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 93% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Costa Rica (X tons), making up a 5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to preserved turkey exports from Brazil stood at -25.3%. Costa Rica (-3.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Costa Rica increased by +4.5 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest preserved turkey supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Costa Rica ($X), with a 6.2% share of total exports.
In Brazil, preserved turkey exports plunged by an average annual rate of -26.6% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -7.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($X per ton), while Brazil totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Costa Rica (+4.7%).
Preserved Turkey Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
Preserved turkey imports fell modestly to X tons in 2021, which is down by -2.6% against 2020. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -3.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 74% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preserved turkey imports totaled $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +63.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Mexico (X tons) and Cuba (X tons) were the main importers of prepared or preserved meat or offal of turkeys in Latin America and the Caribbean, together committing 49% of total imports. The Dominican Republic (X tons) held a 9.4% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (4.6%) and Panama (4.6%). Trinidad and Tobago (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), El Salvador (X tons), Honduras (X tons), Aruba (X tons) and Nicaragua (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cuba (with a CAGR of +90.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported prepared or preserved meat or offal of turkeys in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Dominican Republic ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Cuba, with a 12% share.
In Mexico, preserved turkey imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Dominican Republic (+18.7% per year) and Cuba (+69.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 13%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+10.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
